About Me

Hello! My name is Sarah Ridgway and I am an undergraduate student in the School of Education at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA. I am from Richmond, VA and attended public school in Henrico County. Currently, I am pursuing my Bachelors of Arts in both Elementary Education and Psychology, with plans to graduate in May 2010. I will be certified in the state of Virginia to teach Elementary Education preK-6.

At the College of William and Mary, I have been involved in many organizations. I am a member of Delta Gamma sorority and served as the Vice President: Communications, President, and a member of Honor Board. I am also an active member of the Club Swim Team and served as co-Head Coach for three semesters. Finally, after transferring here from the University of Virginia, I became a Transfer Student Ambassador and served as Treasurer and Secretary. In my free time I enjoy swimming, running, scrap booking, going to the beach, and reading.

During the 2008-2009 school year, I completed over 80 hours of practicum experiences in first grade at Waller Mill Elementary School and Fine Arts Magnet in the York County School District. For my student teaching experience, I am still at Waller Mill Elementary School and Fine Arts Magnet in the first grade. I have enjoyed the experience of working and observing in all grade levels, kindergarten through sixth grade during the past year and a half at Waller Mill Elementary School and Fine Arts Magnet and James Blair Middle School. I feel confident and prepared to successfully teach all the grades within my certification area (preK-6).

Waller Mill Elementary School and Fine Arts Magnet is a public school in the York County School District. It hosts over 340 students in kindergarten through the fifth grade. Any student from the York County School District can attend Waller Mill Elementary School and Fine Arts Magnet if the application is submitted. A lottery-style selection occurs to fill the spaces in the school. Attached is a graph displaying the breakdown of student demographics. Approximately 19% of students at Waller Mill Elementary are eligible for free or reduced-price lunch.
